3. Teams & players

Teams and players live under All Teams and All Players in the ScoreKeeper hub. Both pages use the same layout: a searchable list on the left, details on the right, and a + in the app bar to add.

Which comes first?

It depends on how your event works:

  • Draft-style event (teams are picked on draft night): create the teams with their captains first, then add every other player with no team. The draft assigns them (Chapter 5).
  • Pre-set teams: create teams, then add players and assign them to a team as you go — or add everyone first and use bulk edit to assign teams.

Either way, teams must exist before you can schedule a game.

Teams

Open All Teams. Until you add one you'll see an empty list.

Add a team

Press + (New team) and fill in Team name. Optionally add a logo, pick a Captain from the players you've already added, and — if divisions or men's/women's categories are enabled — a Division or category. The division list includes Create new if you need a group that is not there yet. Press Save, or Save & add another (or just hit Enter) to keep going.

Add team dialog

Tip

Choosing a captain automatically moves that player onto the team. You can also set the captain later from the team's Team tab.

Team details

Select a team in the list to see it on the right. The chip under each team name shows its captain (or No captain).

Team detail
  • Team tab — team name, logo, captain, division/category. Press Edit to change them. The division dropdown includes Create new, or Manage divisions for the full list.
  • Players tab — the current roster. Add players opens a search box where you can pick several players at once; the × beside a player removes them from the team (back to No team). Tap a player to see and edit their numbers, position and skill rating.

Divisions

Divisions are named groups (East / West, A / B, U12 / U14, …). Turning on Use divisions in Setup or Tournament Settings only enables the feature — it does not create any groups, and it does not change how playoffs are built.

  1. Turn on Use divisions in Tournament Settings → Features (or the Setup wizard).

  2. Open Divisions from the ScoreKeeper hub. Add named groups, then move teams from Unassigned. On a phone tap Move on a row (or select several and Move N to…). On a computer you can also drag between columns. You can also pick a division (or Create new) on a team.

  3. Open Settings on that page for Regular season. Set Playoffs in Playoff setup (gear on the Playoffs page). Short titles:

    Regular seasonMeaning
    Play anyoneAny two teams (default)
Within each divisionLeague games stay inside a division
Across divisions onlyLeague games are against other groups
    PlayoffsMeaning
Top teams overallOne bracket from overall standings (default)
Separate playoffs per divisionA bracket and champion per division
Combined playoffs from divisionsTop N per division, plus wild cards, then one bracket

Unassigned teams can still make Top teams overall. They do not qualify for Separate or Combined playoffs.

Scheduling never blocks a pairing. If a regular-season pair breaks the mode, you get a warning and the game still counts.

Public rankings default to By division, with a Tournament-wide view. Show division totals is only offered for Play anyone × Top teams overall.

Deleting a division that still has teams warns you first. Those teams go back to Unassigned. Players and games do not store a division of their own.

Players

Open All Players. The banner under the app bar shows your usage against the plan — Rookie credit · 24 / 32 players · 4 / 4 teams.

Players list

Add players quickly

Press + (New player). The dialog is built for speed: type a Name and press Enter to save and start the next one. Add optional fields only when you need them by pressing + Photo, + Position, + Number, + Skill rating or + Team.

Player details and editing

Select a player to see their Profile and Details. Press Edit to change the name, team, Primary #, Alt # (for the alternate jersey), position, skill rating or photo, or untick Active to keep a player on file but off the ice (inactive players are hidden from scoring rosters and show an Inactive chip). Delete removes them entirely.

Bulk editing players

Tick the boxes beside several players (or the box at the top to select everyone visible in your search) and use the buttons that appear:

  • Edit — assign a team, set a position or skill rating for all selected players in one go.
  • Delete — remove them.
  • Clear — deselect.

Plan limits

The counter in the banner is the number of player and team records that count against your credit. When you reach the limit, New player / New team is disabled and the server declines further additions with a message like This tournament has reached its 32-player limit.

If an event goes over its limit (for example after a downgrade), OutScore freezes scheduling, scoring and drafting until you either remove players or Upgrade the event — deleting is always allowed. See Chapter 9 for upgrading.

Note

Only Admins can add players and teams. Scorekeepers can view and edit existing ones. See Chapter 4 for the difference.
